The Patrons of the Assembly Theatre are pleased to announce our newest partnership & collaboration with Swamp Meadow. The Swamp Meadow Community Theatre was established in the Fall of 2002. It grew from the inspiration of then-15 year old Amy Hollis, the support of fosteringArts.org, the participation of many talented local volunteers, and the overwhelming reception of the Greater Foster Community! Swamp Meadow will open 2022 with it's 19th Season. Going into this new year the Assembly Theatre
will house Swamp Meadow's exciting 2022 productions.
Swamp Meadow's Spring Show: Into the Woods
James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone’s favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, yet relevant, piece… and a rare modern classic. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. It’s a touching, thought-provoking and darkly comic show. We are excited to bring you this rich musical tale, directed by the magical Shannon McLoud! Show dates May 27th, May 28th, June 3rd, 4th and 5th at the Assembly Theatre.
Swamp Meadow's Summer Youth Show : Rock of Ages (Youth Edition)
Our summer kids show returns with the ultimate party! Created by Chris D’Arienzo, this Jukebox Musical is filled with the best rock anthems the 80s has to offer. This version of Rock of Ages has been heavily edited from the original Broadway production to be more appropriate for younger audiences and will be a fantastic slot for our Summer Kid’s show. Set on L.A.’s famous Sunset Strip in 1987, Rock of Ages tells the story of Drew, a city boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, who have both travelled to L.A. to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. This classic love story is set against the troubles at the Dupree Room, a “legendary temple of rock ‘n’ roll excellence” under threat by developers of being torn down and replaced with a strip mall. The threats of closure bring legendary rocker Stacee Jaxx to town, and an opportunity for Drew to chase his dream to rock out with the best. Trouble brews as Drew abandons Sherrie for his dream of stardom, rock ‘n’ roll bad boy Stacee lures Sherrie away, and the Dupree Room is surrendered to developers. Can Drew and Sherrie rescue their love? And can the Dupree Room be saved before it’s too late? Show dates September 2nd, 3rd and 4th at the Assembly theatre. Audition information to come.
Swamp Meadow's Fall Show: Noises Off!
Hailed as one of the greatest farces ever written, Michael Frayn’s famous play is sure to be a riot from beginning to end. Noises Off! presents a manic menagerie of itinerant actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On. Doors slamming, on and offstage intrigue, and an errant herring all figure in the plot of this hilarious and classically comic play.
Show dates November 18th and 19th at 7pm and 20th at 2pm.
Auditions expected in August, more information to come. Directed by Tyler H Vigeant.
